"The notion that one is superior based on one’s ability to hear or behave in the manner of one who hears." --Tom Humphries

Audism is prejudice or discrimination based on a person's hearing loss. It is documented as affecting among deaf and hard of hearing (HOH) people, it can affect any gender, any race, any religion, any LGBTQ+, and so on. It has been linked to stereotypes where most people believe that deaf and hard of hearing people cannot be successful without hear sense. And it may include the belief that the ability to speak and hear is intrinsically superior to those who cannot hear and speak.

Examples[]

  • The show, What Would You Do?, had displayed that you can quietly deny deaf and HOH people a job request by discarding an application.
  • In United States and in 26 countries, there are some States actually do not allow Deaf people to drive their vehicles.[1]
  • Some Deaf families may lost their children to Children Protection Services.[2] Which Keri's story can be available for watching her experience and DarkCougar555 provided Keri's full transcription.
  • Will be added more sources...
