Daphne Paloma Vasquez was born in the early morning of October 22, 1995, to biological parents Kathryn Kennish and John Kennish but was raised by legal mother Regina Vasquez and legal grandmother Adrianna Vasquez in a working-class neighborhood where Regina worked as a hairdresser. Daphne lost her hearing after getting meningitis at the age of three. Daphne has been best friends with Emmett Bledsoe since age eight.

Daphne and Regina Vasquez were living in the neighborhood of East Riverside when they were contacted by the hospital in which Regina gave birth, and told that they were being sought out by the Kennish family because they wanted to meet their biological daughter who was switched at birth with the one they had been raising: Bay Kennish. This brings the two girls and families together and Daphne grows to love all of them.
Season 1[]
In This Is Not a Pipe, Daphne convinces her mom to meet the Kennishs, and they end up moving into their guesthouse, instead of leaving Kansas City. John Kennish takes Daphne aside and suggests that she leave Carlton School for the Deaf to go to the school the Kennish children attend. Daphne politely refuses but finally agrees to take a tour of Buckner Hall where she meets Bay's ex-boyfriend Liam Lupo. John urges Daphne not to tell Regina because of a fight they had had earlier that morning about getting Daphne a cochlear implant, which could let her hear again. After finding out that Daphne's mother is in financial trouble, the Kennishes invite Regina and Daphne to move into their guest house, which they accept. The new living situation forces the girls, along with both families, to understand their differences and embrace their similarities.
In American Gothic, Daphne goes on a date with Liam, but it ends badly when his friends joke about deafness.
In Portrait of My Father, Daphne spends time with John, sharing in his love of sports, but he takes it a bit far. She gives Bay a photo of Regina when she was pregnant with Bay.
In Dance Amongst Daggers, Bay and Daphne find out that they are each dating someone from the other's past. They fight, and Daphne ends up breaking up with Liam.
In Dogs Playing Poker, Daphne and Emmett help Toby play poker, but Toby gets angry when Daphne messes up and loses his money.
In The Persistence of Memory, Kathryn Kennish notices Daphne's talent for cooking and suggests she take advanced cooking classes offered at Buckner Hall, where she inadvertently causes the classroom to catch on fire because she cannot hear the warning bell, but Wilke helped her and also stood up for her. Daphne and her cooking partner Wilke begin to form a friendship after he pulls her out of the path of an oncoming car, and he becomes one of her main support systems.
In The Stag Hunt, Daphne suspects something is going on with Emmett and Bay, but Emmett doesn't say anything about it. She then discovers the guitar case that Emmett and Bay were searching for, and after trying numerous different combinations to open it she discovers that the code is 229, or "BAY". She opens it and discovers pictures of Bay from a young age up to her teenage years. Regina comes in and freaks out and takes the guitar case away.
In Pandora's Box, Daphne finds out that Regina knew about the switch.
In Paradise Lost, Daphne moves in with the Kennishs after Regina leaves. She and Bay celebrate their birthday together with the Kennishs. Daphne tells Bay that she has feelings for Emmett.
In The Homecoming, Daphne finds out about Bay and Emmett's relationship but decides to still pursue Emmett. She is angry that Angelo has shown up and wants to pursue a relationship with Bay.
In Starry Night, Daphne goes to the music festival and sneaks into Emmett's tent. She lets off steam about everything going on in her life.
In The Tempest, Daphne tries to fit in with the members of the Buckner basketball team, especially her new friend Simone.
In Self-Portrait With Bandaged Ear, Daphne finds out that she was only put on the Buckner basketball team so they could get a grant.

In Game On, Daphne and the Carlton basketball team go to the Springfield Tournament. She is approached by a mother and daughter from Indiana who tell her they drove hours to see her play. In the tournament, she accidentally passes the ball to Simone. In the last few seconds of the game, Buckner is up by 1 point but Simone pushes her and Buckner receives a foul. Daphne is then allowed to shoot two free throws which she scores and Carlton wins the game.
In The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters, Bay and Daphne produce an ASL zombie movie for Emmett's birthday.
In Venus, Cupid, Folly, and Time, Daphne asks Wilke to prom but he says he is too busy, so she invites Travis. Wilke shows up at the last minute and the three of them go to prom together. Daphne finds out that Wilke is being sent to boarding school.
In This Is the Color of My Dreams, Kathryn gets Daphne a job at a kitchen, but she gets demoted to dishwasher after she has accidents in the kitchen because of her deafness.
In The Intruder, Angelo moves in with Daphne, Adrianna, and Regina after getting married to Regina. Daphne takes the news well but spends more time at school and work. She and Emmett enter their film in a film festival.
In The Shock of Being Seen, Daphne causes any accident at work and had to stay late with Chef Jeff, developing a friendship with him. She starts to have feelings for him, and tries to attract his attention by changing her style.
In Tree of Forgiveness, Angelo tries to make amends with Daphne.
In The Declaration of Independence, Daphne struggles to decipher Jeff's signals.
In We Are the Kraken of Our Own Sinking Ships, Chef Jeff ends his affair with Melody and makes out with Daphne again before working hours. Daphne's co-worker Scuba realizes there is something going on between her and Chef Jeff, so Scuba asks her to cover for his mistakenly over cooked shrimp. When Daphne refuses, Scuba tells all of his co-workers about Chef Jeff's and Daphne's relationship.
In The Trial, Daphne and Jeff been hanging out a lot more. Daphne later reveals to Bay that she was about to take the next step with Jeff and to Bay's surprise, it wouldn't have been her first time. Daphne is also surprised Bay is still a virgin. Melody confronts Daphne about her relationship with Jeff, but Daphne is convinced that she was just jealous of them. Jeff begins to have doubts about his and Daphne's relationship, but Daphne goes to his home and the two end up having sex.
In Street Noises Invade the House, Daphne is confronted by the restaurant owner about her relationship with Jeff, and she denies everything. She decides to quit her job so she can be with Jeff. She tells him she loves him, and he breaks up with her. After the trial, a pregnant woman comes up to Bay and Daphne looking for Angelo.

In The Door to Freedom, Angelo buys Daphne a food truck with his newfound fortune, and she conspires with Travis about what she will do with it.
In The Awakening Conscience, Daphne opens her food truck at John's carwash, but does not like the high prices he wants her to charge. She decides to take it to her old neighborhood, where she practically gives away free food, upsetting a boy who lives there.
In Duel of Two Women, Daphne supports Regina after the truth about Angelo's new baby is revealed. Daphne bonds with Noah on the retreat, and confesses how she feels about Regina not being able to sign anymore. Noah doesn't tell her about his disease though.
In Dressing for the Charade, Daphne gets the truth from Travis's mother regarding his so-called problems at home.
In The Acquired Inability to Escape, Daphne works in her food truck with Travis. She meets a strange man who flirts with her. He later comes back with his friend and they rob her.
In Human/Need/Desire, Daphne admits what happened with her food truck to her family, and they debate what is the best thing to do with this situation.
In Drive in the Knife, Daphne breaks up with Travis. Afterwards, the police find the man who robbed the food truck and Travis lies when he's asked to ID the man at the police station.
In Tight Rope Walker, Daphne feels caught in the middle in the fight between hearing and deaf kids at Carlton. She talks to the school board and tells Kathryn that Carlton is closing.
In Uprising, Daphne leads the Carlton kids in protest against the decision to shut down Carlton. She finds out that Regina started drinking again.
In Introducing the Miracle, Daphne and the students at Carlton find out the verdict on their protest. Carlton will stay open, but it will only be 50% deaf.
In Mother and Child Divided, Daphne meets a boy named Jace who works at the Coffee Booth at the Senator Kennish Office.
In Distorted House, Daphne becomes tennis partners with Kathryn at the club, while Bay moves in with Regina, a decision Daphne does not take well.

In Prudence, Avarice, Lust, Justice, Anger, Daphne and Jace must decide what to do with the evidence they have of Chip Coto's promiscuity and corruption.

In What Goes Up Must Come Down, Daphne worries that Chip Codo is on to her. She grows increasingly frustrated with Jace, and breaks off their relationship.

In Departure Of Summer, Daphne now faces, at worst, felony blackmail charge and could wind up behind bars. John and Kathryn are willing to pay the $50,000 to Coto who wants to be quiet, but Daphne, being Daphne, can't stand for the sleaze to get away with what he'd done. Daphne goes to Jace and ask him to publish her side of the story on his blog, knowing fully well it'll probably get Jace deported and herself locked up.

In Drowning Girl, Daphne begins serving a community service sentence at the clinic. There, she meets her supervisor, Jorge, and Campbell, the survivor of an athletic accident.
In Your Body Is a Battleground, Daphne wrongfully releases a patient from the clinic, but receives Campbell's help searching. Meanwhile, she recruits Sharee for the new field hockey team.
In Fountain, Daphne and Sharee land in detention and miss the first field hockey game of the season.
In It Hurts to Wait With Love if Love is Somewhere Else, Jorge's sister chastises Daphne about the blackmailing incident, causing Daphne to leave the family barbecue she was attending. Daphne goes to play basketball with Campbell, and he tries to kiss her, but she refuses because he is still dating Gretchen. At the clinic, Jorge apologizes to Daphne and kisses her, leading to them dating. Campbell tells her that he broke up with Gretchen.
In Have You Really the Courage?, Daphne picks up Sharee and witnesses a fight before Shafer's mom and her boyfriend. She notices a bruise on Sharee's arm. Later, Sharee asks to borrow her car because her a mom did not show up to work. Daphne agrees, and Sharee says she will have it back before field hockey practice. When Sharee doesn't show up to practice, Daphne is worried about her and goes with Regina to her house. They meet her mom, who seems kind of off, and she invites them to dinner. Sharee is angry that they are there and explains to Daphne that her mother has ups and downs to the point of trying to harm herself. She asks Daphne not to say anything, but Regina convinces her that they need to call CPS.
In The Scream, Daphne throws Campbell a 21st birthday party. Gretchen shows up unexpectedly and is hostile towards Daphne because she thinks that Campbell broke up with her to be with Daphne. Campbell's feelings for her make things awkward, since she is now dating Jorge.
In Memory is Your Image of Perfection, Sharee takes her mentally ill mother to the clinic at Daphne's suggestion, but Daphne must act quickly when the attending doctor is stabbed.
In Dance Me to the End of Love, Daphne's actions in the last episode lead to a possible interest in studying medicine.
In The Past (Forgotten-Swallowed), Daphne is invited to a clinic fundraiser. She finds herself the object of both Jorge's and Campbell's affections. She finally tells Jorge about her feelings for Campbell, and he breaks up with her.
In The Ambush, Daphne prepares for the field hockey game, while trying to decide between Jorge and Campbell. Jorge invites her to go rock climbing as friends, hurting Campbell's feelings since he can't rock climbing anymore. Daphne makes a list of pros and cons, and it's clear that she has already picked Campbell. She and Campbell go out and they face some problems because of his disability, causing her to get angry and try to defend him. She later apologizes, and they kiss.
In Love Seduces Innocence, Pleasure Entraps, and Remorse Follows, Daphne faces someone from the past, the man who harassed her on her food truck.
In Love Among the Ruins, Daphne and Bay look to track down the studio vandal. Meanwhile, Daphne asks Angelo to move into the guest house to keep Regina safe.
In Like a Snowball Down a Mountain, Daphne gets a part-time paid job at the clinic, causing Campbell to come jealous as he has worked there longer than her.
In Oh, Future, Daphne interviews for a scholarship, while Kathryn, Regina, and John argue over who will fund her higher education.
In And We Bring the Light, Daphne is stressing out over retaking the SAT, so Angelo takes her to his new restaurant and they bake a cake his grandmother used to make. Daphne finally remembers where she left her SAT book and they go to Regina's to get it. When she gets there, Regina doesn't hear her, and Daphne doesn't hear Regina, and Regina ends up pulling a gun on Daphne. Angelo comes in to the building and gets very angry at Regina.
In The Image Disappears, everyone rushes to the hospital after Angelo's accident. Regina tells Daphne that she should still go take her SAT, but Daphne's phone continuously goes off during the test so she looks at it and runs out. Angelo goes braindead, and Daphne has a dream about him helping her prepare for her wedding. After he dies and they talk about donating his organs, it is revealed that he died from an aneurysm, potentially cause by how angry he was at Regina. Daphne is furious and refused to forgive Regina.
In Girl With Death Mask (She Plays Alone), Daphne, Bay, and John go to Chicago to meet Bay's cousin and for Daphne to take a tour of Northwestern. While there, Daphne and a premed student try cocaine, and throw his furniture off the roof. When Daphne gets home, she continues to be angry at her mom and tells her that she got high.
In It Isn't What You Think, Daphne gets accepted in to Gallaudet University. She goes to the guesthouse and meets Regina's boss. She is still angry and aggressive towards her. She goes to talk to Nacho and decides to go with him to vandalise the construction site. Nacho takes it too far. Afterwards, she tells him about her probation and they start to kiss.
In You Will Not Escape, Daphne is angry that Regina decided to accept Angelo's life insurance. She decides to organize a senior ditch day at Carlton. It takes a turn for the worse when she invites Nacho who brings beer, and another girl. She gets drunk and kisses Travis, and then pushes Bay. Sharee gives her a ride home. Daphne tells Regina that she isn't her mom, and never was.
In Girl on the Cliff, Bay tells the parents about everything Daphne has been doing, and Daphne is grounded. She goes back to work at the clinic. However, she steals some oxycodone and loses her job. She runs away, and Kathryn finds her at Angelo's memorial.
In And Life Begins Right Away, Daphne tries to figure out what she can do to stop Carlton from closing. She gets arrested for her involvement in the destruction of the building site. She is facing up to 3 years jail time. She decides to take a plea deal and go to prison for 3 months. She gives her speech at graduation, and then goes with Bay to turn herself in. However, Bay takes credit for the crime.
In Yuletide Fortune Tellers, Daphne decides to spend Christmas with the Kennishs, to Regina's frustration. Bay and Daphne split a garlic knots, commenting how life would be easier if they had never been switched. The next morning, Daphne wakes up hearing, in a world without the switch. She is now Bay, and the Kennish household is completely different. She's a star soccer player, and John is her coach. She meets up with Bay and they figure out what's going on. They decide to let it play out and see what happens. However, Toby is goth and hates John, and Kathryn and John are close to divorce. She and Bay try to figure out how to reverse it. They decide they need to unite their families and recreate the moment with the garlic knots. It doesn't work. Daphne goes to Regina with a movie to watch together. The next morning, they wake up with everything back to normal.
Season 4[]
In And It Cannot Be Changed, Daphne decides not to go to Gallaudet, and instead to go to a local college so she can stay close to Bay. She needs an interpreter for her premed class, but cannot convince her roommate's cousin, Josh, who has the qualifications, to do it. She finally convinces him. She tries to apologize to Bay for everything, but Bay doesn't want to talk to her.
In Bracing The Waves, Daphne is late to her first day of chem class. She joins a study group but can't keep up. They meet without her, and Josh yells at them. Daphne fires Josh, but he comes to class the next day with advanced notes for her. The study group wants her back, and she agrees to go back.
In I Lock the Door Upon Myself, Daphne tries to figure out what to do after a student called Mingo pulls pranks on them and gets their bathroom closed. They decide to have a triathlon to see who gets to use the other bathroom on the floor. They win after Mingo cheats on the first event and then Daphne brings John to the baseball event.

Daphne is an incredibly gorgeous teenage girl. She has long straight strawberry blonde hair that’s sometimes curled and goes through different lengths from chest length to shoulder length and then medium length and blue green eyes and button nose and full lips with a wide smile. She is 5'4" with a slim figure, and loves basketball. She won a basketball tournament for Carlton due to two free point shots. She is always happy and optimistic. She is proud to be deaf, and always fights for what she believes in. Daphne is considerably honest and very confident. She looks very much like her biological mother Kathryn. She has stolen $5,000 from her biological parents, and $47 from a wallet she found in Maui, Kansas. She knew whose it was as she met the guy earlier that day and disrespected her over her deafness, both times she’d stolen were for selfless purposes and didn't keep the money for herself, in fact she returned the $5,000 and told her parents the truth. When the series progress, she became more rebellious and also unforgiving. She started to become more like John, who always hold grudges and be over-controlling and selfish.
