"Portrait of My Father"[title 1] is the third episode of ABC Family's Switched at Birth Season One and the series overall. It was written by Michael Schultz, and it was directed by Beck Hartman Edwards. It was originally aired on June 20th, 2011.

Plot[]

[...] Later, John meets Melody, Daphne's basketball coach, Regina's friend and Emmett's mom. John and Daphne bond over basketball, but he takes practicing a little too far. [...]

Meanwhile, Bay is curious and asks Regina about her biological father but Regina and Adrianna both refuse to talk about him. Ty shows Bay around his neighborhood, where she could have potentially been raised. And Bay confides in Ty about wanting to know her biological father. Later, Daphne gives Bay a photo of Regina when she was pregnant with her – and it was taken by Bay's biological father. [...]

In morning, John watches Daphne and Toby are playing basketball while Bay paints her art. Bay is distracted by sounds of the ball crashes, annoying her. She politely asks them to move someplace else that will not bother her. But, they still play the game, so John corrects Daphne for how to throw a ball in right position. Bay leaves.

Gillian comes for the visit and gives Kathryn a donation for fundraiser. They walks in the kitchen while they talk about Denise's bar. Gillian notices Regina is around outside, asking Kathryn if that woman is her maid, but Kathryn says she is not. Gillian asks who Regina is, which Bay snarks that she should tell her who Regina is.

At outside, John, Toby and Daphne are still playing the game. Bay, Kathryn and Regina shows up when Kathryn gets their attention for important message to share. Kathryn says that they all should tell their friends about why Regina and Daphne are moved in and to give the friends a vague of the truth. Everyone disagree and they say they all should tell the truth, but Kathryn insists that she doesn't want her friends weight in while Kennish & Vasquez are still figuring out. Kathryn tells that they should just inform their friends that Regina and Daphne are old friends and are staying here until they relocate. Everyone is okay with her idea.

Everyone leaves.

Bay comes with Regina to explain that Kennish family doesn't want to reveal the truth of the switch. Regina understands that Kennish is worrying about what others think of. Bay then asks about her biological father, but Regina reveals the father had left when Daphne was only three and haven't contacted with him since. Bay disappoints that she has all what she knows of and wants to know more, so Regina says it's best thing that man did was leave and Regina's and Daphne's lives are better for it and she then tells Bay it's hers too.

At the Carlton school, Emmett and Daphne are at outside for lunch time. Emmett takes a couple of photos of Daphne. Emmett asks that Kennish family wants her to tell people about Daphne and Regina are living with the family. He asks is it too embarrassment about Daphne? But Daphne replies that she thinks her biological parents are embarrassed themselves like they don't know how to be different.

Liam walks in with fried zucchini, which Emmett notices and tells Daphne that guy can't get a hint. Daphne looks at the guy and sighs that she says she will get this. Liam intends to give her the shrimp fires and stats that he'll be here tonight at his food truck as a job, so he says she can come. But, she declines it that she is still upset about the last night when he didn't defend her against the . Liam apologizes that he didn't know what to say and saw her left. Daphne tells him that she left because she was mad. He says he was just froze that doesn't know what to say but Daphne bitters that say nothing does seem right choice to him, and thanks Liam for zucchini. She storms off to Emmett. Liam looks hurt.

At Kennish Mansion, outside, Regina sees Kathryn and asks her to guide her client to her guest house for haircut. Kathryn surprises that Regina owns her business at house rather than at workplace. Regina explains that she used to work at her old home for haircut and she says that Kathryn can get a free haircut for visit by.

At Mexican restaurant, Tyler and Bay get their food and Bay says she loves this place. She notices there is a board of neighbors' pictures, including a photo of little Daphne and Regina. Bay asks Tyler if he knows about her father but he says the father took off before he moved in. Bay says that Daphne never mentions of her dad, but Tyler also mentions that it's sore subject about him.
