"Protect Me From What I Want"[title 1] is the seventeenth episode of ABC Family's Switched at Birth Season One and the series overall. It was written by Becky Hartman Edwards and Lizzy Weiss, and it was directed by David Paymer. It was originally aired on February 14th, 2012.

Plot[]

Coach Medlock holds a contest to decide the starting lineup for the Buckner girls' basketball playoff game. To help them get an edge, Simone hires a private coach with the money she got from selling the watch she thought was stolen. Daphne tells Simone that they should tell someone the watch wasn't stolen because it caused girls from her old neighborhood to not be allowed to practice at their gym anymore, but Simone refuses. When Daphne continues to question Simone’s morals, she learns why Bay hates Simone so much. Coach Medlock later puts Daphne and Simone up against each other for a spot on the lineup, and Daphne wins the match.

Regina meets Patrick, an art gallery owner, at her salon, and he agrees to meet with Bay. But when Patrick comes by to see Bay's work, he ends up showing more interest in Regina's old art pieces. Regina is less than thrilled when she meets Simone after she sees the makeover she has given Daphne. Meanwhile, Kathryn feels guilty about ignoring Toby since the switch, so John asks Toby to play a charity baseball game with him. When John sees Toby’s baseball talent, he accuses Toby of throwing his talent away on music.

Kathryn learns that Emmett has an assignment to take a family portrait. Since Emmett's family is always fighting, Kathryn offers up their family for the photoshoot, despite Bay’s protests. Emmett becomes upset after a portrait meeting with Kathryn when she mentions Bays relationship with Ty and how heartbroken Bay was when he left. Bay eases Emmett’s jealousy over Ty after he takes their family portrait, and they say I love you for the first time.
