Plot[]
Summer is over, and Bay returns from the Galapagos Islands where she met a new guy named Alex. Regina hurt her arm and can’t sign or cut hair. The Kennishes host a book party for Kathryn’s new memoir, and Bay is surprised at how much Emmett is featured in the book.
Meanwhile, Kathryn helps Daphne get a job at a local restaurant where we meet Chef Jeff and Scuba, the line chef. Unfortunately Daphne’s hearing impairment turns out to be a pretty big problem at her new job, and she’s demoted to dishwasher. Kathryn wants to come to Daphne’s rescue, but Daphne doesn’t want to be saved. Instead, Daphne tries to improve her position on her own by adding a mirror to her workstation so that she can see people behind her. In an attempt to win Bay back, Emmett makes a grand gesture through art. Even though Bay hasn't forgiven Emmett, Bay breaks it off with Alex. Angelo’s immigration hearing goes poorly so in an effort to keep Angelo in the country, Regina and Angelo secretly wed.

It's the beginning of a new school year and Bay returns from her trip to the Galapagos with a new boyfriend, Alex Rainford. Kathryn finally releases her book on the switch, which causes some problems in the Kennish household. Daphne lands a job at a restaurant with the help of Kathryn, but things do not go smoothly, as the head chef thinks that having a deaf person in the kitchen could raise hazards. After she is demoted to dish-washing, Kathryn tries to intervene. Bay is not completely over Emmett, especially after seeing a mural that he had painted of their relationship, and this leads to her breaking it off with Alex. Later, Bay and Emmett meet up and while he is deeply sorry about what had happened between him and Simone, Bay doesn't think that they could ever be the same. Meanwhile, Regina and the Kennishes have been trying to help Angelo stay in the country, but after he is ordered by a judge to be deported back to Italy, Regina steps in and marries him that same day.

Toby: It's not like Simone and I were written in the stars or anything. |
Bay: Those would be some pretty messed up stars. |
Alex: [about Bay] So we bonded over our hatred of the sun and the ocean instead. |
Toby: What's up with your hair? |
Emmett: [to Bay] We were bigger than my one mistake. |
Bay: [to Simone] You wanna do something to make this better? Don't be in my world anymore. |
Bay: Do you know how nice it was to not be the girl who was switched at birth for a few weeks? |
Alex: [reading Kathryn's book, about Emmet] He rode up on his motorcycle looking like a deaf James Dean. |
Patrick: I'd rather be in a relationship where both people choose to, not because getting out of it would be a pain in the ass. |
